Fort Belan, initially built as a coastal defense during the American War of Independence, has a rich history marked by both military and civilian uses. Constructed in 1775 by Thomas Wynn (later Lord Newborough), it served as a defense against potential French invasion and later, as a garrison for the Caernarvonshire Militia. The fort also played a role in World War II, housing the Home Guard and rescue launches.
